The story of Hanuman and Surya and the gift of devotion through the Sun Salutations 🌞✨

n yogic mythology, the mighty and beloved monkey-god Hanuman was not only known for his strength and courage, but for his deep and unwavering devotion.
As a young student eager to learn, Hanuman sought the wisdom of the radiant sun god Surya, who travels across the sky each day in his celestial chariot. Surya initially hesitated. “How can I teach you?” he asked. “I never stop moving across the sky.”
But Hanuman, determined and devoted, promised to face Surya at all times. He leapt into the sky and began traveling alongside the sun, moving backward so he could always remain in his teacher’s presence. Day after day he studied sacred knowledge while journeying across the heavens.
Moved by this extraordinary dedication, Surya accepted him as a student and taught him the Vedas, the scriptures, and the wisdom of life.
It is said that Surya Namaskar — the Sun Salutation — honors this sacred relationship between student and teacher. Each bow, reach, and breath becomes an offering of gratitude to the sun, the source of life, light, and awakening.
Just as Hanuman moved with devotion toward Surya, we move through the Sun Salutations with reverence — cultivating strength, humility, and devotion in every breath.
Each round becomes a moving prayer…
a rhythm of body and spirit greeting the light.
🌞 May your practice be filled with the courage of Hanuman and the radiant wisdom of Surya.
